5.2.3 Stress Analysis for the Body Plate

The body plate was analyzed by treating it as a cantilever beam. Figure 22 shows a sketch of the body plate. The 150lbs force was applied at the tip of the beam. Due to the moment effect, bending stress was created on the beam. The maximum stress is located at the sharp corner due to stress concentration.

By knowing the location of the stress concentration, the sharp corner was filleted with radius 1.5 in. Using the stress concentration chart from the mechanics of Material book, the stress concentration factor was obtained.
